The the most desirable regime for exhibition quality blooms is autumn sowing. This can be tricky in the north if October and November are too mild, as excessive top growth becomes vulnerable to hard winter conditions.

1. Sow in late October or early November. It may be advisable to nick the seed coat before sowing with some varieties
