Sowing Sweet Pea Seeds - Autumn (Oct - Nov)
The the most desirable regime for exhibition quality blooms is autumn sowing. This can be tricky in the north if October and November are too mild, as excessive top growth becomes vulnerable to hard winter conditions.
- Sow in late October or early November. It may be advisable to nick the seed coat before sowing with some varieties
- Use a good multi-purpose compost or seed sowing compost
- Bury seeds to a depth of about 1cm and water in
- Keep under glass, in a cold frame, or unheated greenhouse
- Transfer outdoors during Febuary, keeping an eye out for frosts
- When the seedlings are about 15cm tall, plant out and support
