Sowing Sweet Pea Seeds - Winter (Dec-Feb)
Sowing indoors in late December or early January can yield very good results.
- Sow in late December or early January. It may be advisable to nick the seed coat before sowing with some varieties
- Use a good multi-purpose compost or seed sowing compost
- Bury seeds to a depth of about 1cm and water in
- Keep on a cool, well-lit window ledge until evidence of germination is spotted
- Transfer to a cold frame once the seedlings are developing
- Seedlings will not be as frost-hardy as winter-sown plants, so keep under glass until the last of the frosts have passed
- Acclimatise gradually by transfering young plants outdoors during the day, and then keep under glass at night
- When the seedlings are about 15cm tall, plant out and support
